Moviegoers at last night’s L.A. premiere of 13 Hours were treated to more than just a testosterone-fueled retelling of the Benghazi tragedy—they got a surprise trailer for a Cloverfield sequel. The movie, 10 Cloverfield Lane, is produced by J.J. Abrams and is a “blood relative” of the original 2008 film, according to The Wrap. Even better: Abrams, who’s riding high on Star Wars success, kept the whole thing secret.
The movie stars John Goodman, whose character is living in a bunker with what appears to be his family. There’s a nostalgic sheen to the setting, and it’s reminiscent of the hatch in the Abrams co-created TV show Lost. It’s unclear whether they’re stuck in the bunker because of what happens in Cloverfield, when a giant monster wreaks havoc on New York City. The movie is told through what is said to be found footage of the disaster. The trailer to 10 Cloverfield Lane – which comes out March 11 – is pretty great.
